journey-to-balance:

The most creative and destructive thing known to man is the mind. It can manifest superlative beauty and foster death in the living. It can realize complete silence in the midst of total chaos and fool even the most brilliant. It can deceive the most cunning, and in one fell motion construct, then eliminate time and illusion. It can bring the world to its knees with joy or in pain. It can shine in the dark, and make the dark shine. What power this is that NO one ( except the “ONE” ) has yet to harness, but, we all have this capability.. What a machine..Use it wisely. It’s about coming full circle. It’s about 360 degrees of inspiration. journey to balance

Busyness DOES NOT EQUAL effectiveness or significance

I woke up this morning and thanked God for another beautiful day! I then turned on my morning playlist and hopped into the shower with joy and excitement with what the day was going to bring me.  I had no idea how liberating it was going to be!

Let me ask you a question, when’s the last time you read? And I don’t mean a magazine, some article on the internet, or some book for school but when did you sit down and read for the benefit of reading? Did you know that everything we take in is eventually what we become. In today’s culture of high tech media it seems like all we take in is the world and all it’s superficial ideas, images and teachings. We can’t help but to! They are constantly surrounding us. They are in our advertising on build boards, newspapers, and tv. They are in our television and computer screens and sadly, parts of this superficial egocentric world is in parts of us, because it’s all we take in. God really spoke to me today about the power of reading. I read all day. A book and then some poetry and then another book and the result was inner calmness and reflectiveness.

If out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34) then we ought to be careful with what we put in our heart? With what we let our eyes see, ears hear, fingers do and feet go? Shouldn’t we be feeding our hearts and inner being more than our temporary outward self? Even doing things like cleaning the house, taking care of the kids, taking care of your husband, making dinner are all great things to do, but we need to make a daily decision to STOP.READ. and LISTEN.

Reading is literally taking beautiful words that were inspired by someones life and taking that knowledge and wisdom and putting it into your head. It’s like a chance to unscrew your head and POUR IN GOODNESS. The art of reading has sadly been lost. The art of stopping and listening instead of talking has sadly been lost. The art of being still has sadly been lost. Busyness DOES NOT EQUAL effectiveness or significance. You can be as busy as you want with your children, your job, your house hold responsibilities, school, and social gatherings but if you don’t take the time to be still, read the words of men and women who have lived and learned precious lessons, and just listen to what God wants to teach you, show you, and do with you then count all your busyness as nothing.

Get busy reading. Get busy nourishing your inner self. Get busy listening and being still in a world that is speeding up every single second.

I’ve been doing it and it’s seriously liberating to the mind, body and soul. <3

3 Months Left to be COMPLETELY SELFISH.

As I was having a last trimester pregnancy breakdown and wishing I could just crawl into a hole and not deal with ANYTHING/ANYONE for the last three months of pregnancy, a lovely friend of mine who just recently became a new mommy, reminded me to stop thinking of everyone else and think of me. She asked me if there was ANYTHING I COULD RIGHT NOW, what would it be? I actually had to think about it. I don’t really remember the last time I thought about Torrie and only Torrie. She then said:

“It is now time to be completely selfish cause once she’s here you are completely selfless!!”

I thank God for using her to put the wisdom in my life at this exact moment. I really needed to realize the truth in that statement. There is no wrong or harm in being completely selfish for these last 3 months. To eliminate ALL stresses, ignore phone calls that I want to ignore, watch ONE TREE HILL ALL DAY AND EVERYDAY, and just completely relaxe every muscle in my being and not worry about anything. So that’s what I’m going to do! I have 3 months to milk it for what it is and take care of myself while I can! :) No apologies.

XOXO.

Where Did Leaders Like That Go?

As I was reading up and watching old speeches on the late Martin Luther King, Jr I couldn’t help but get a little disappointed and sad NOT with how far we have come as African Americans but how far we have come as a NATION. I was reading up on his life, his speeches, his character and I couldn’t help but wonder this;

WHERE DID LEADERS LIKE THAT GO?

Martin Luther King, Jr wasn’t just a leader who spoke words that would make people feel good, but he was a man who spoke what he was fighting for. NONE OF IT WAS LIES just to win peoples votes or popularity. That’s how you KNOW you’re fighting for something that’s worth it, when people go against you for simply stating the truth. He stood on the word of God. WHOA, tell me one public leader who does that today?! He didn’t have to have a gimmick like wearing odd things to stand out, not eating for months, not having a silly slogan just to lie to the people and  get votes….no, he didn’t all of that extra stuff because he stood on TRUTH, Gods unfailing, undying TRUTH. I don’t know about you, but that’s the kind of men and women I want to see today. That’s the kind of leaders I want to be leading my country. Not people who lie and disguise themselves and stand on EVERYTHING…NO, I want a man who doesn’t lie, who doesn’t need a disguise and stands on TRUTH.

A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.
Martin Luther King, Jr.

<3 He was a rare and strong leader who I admire for his leadership skills, but most importantly his choice to stand on Gods will and to not apologize.

Taking something simple and adding umph! :)

FRAMES!!! I’m obsessed with frames lately. I had this ordinary black frame that I wanted to put in my living room, but it was just black, which doesn’t add spark or character to any room! I’ve had this lace fabric laying around and decided to do something with the two! The end result was a a very vintage/romantic frame that I KNOW will add flare to any room (living room, bedroom, bathroom…even a college dorm.) I want to share it with you guys! :)

p.s. thanks so much to my followers!!! I’m only a couple away from 200!! :)

God Bless!

1. Boring black frame…

2. AHHH pretty lace! (I cut a little extra. It’s always better to cut more..then to cut less).
3. I used tap to tap the extra in the back down while I cut the opening of the frame in the front.
.
4.  Cut the square for the opening of the frame! (don’t have a picture but pretty easy step…they all are lol).
5. Put a pretty, personal picture inside (this is an engagement one of me and the hubs!) It was smaller then the frame, which ended up being cool because the cardboard looks like a border and gives it the  old country/vintage vibe that I love.

6. YAY. it’s so pretty… well to me. :)
